Silver Lining

I'm delighted to see that common sense looks like prevailing over a proposed Champions League victory parade through the streets of Manchester.

Police and civic dignitaries from the city have wisely blocked this ludicrous waste of time on public order grounds. While this seems quite reasonable, considering what happened in the city during last week's UEFA Cup final, the true reason must surely be that it has nothing at all to do with them. It's like hosting a party and only inviting people you don't know!

Surely it's down to Boris Johnson, if anyone, to sanction this most distasteful of celebrations.
